The University of Jammu, accredited as ‘A’ grade University by National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India came into existence in 1969 vide Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir.

The University provides instructions in such branches of learning as it deems fit and makes provision for research and the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. The University stands for spiritual and material elements in life thirst for knowledge and virtue under the backdrop of holy peaks of Trikuta Hills. University of Jammu holds examinations, grants degrees, generates knowledge and confers diverse academic distinctions on persons who pursue approved courses of study in the University or in constituent colleges/institutions approved for the purpose also for those who appear as external/private candidates.

The General eligibility qualification for various courses admissions in Jammu University are as follow:

A candidate to be eligible for admission to the Master Degree (other than M. Phil.) Bachelor Degree (LL.B and B.Lib.Sc) and Diploma programmes in the University, must have passed the qualifying Bachelor Degree examination of 10+2+3 pattern (Honours or General) in Arts, Science, Commerce, or Business Administration or an examination qualifying for a professional degree of not less than 3 years duration or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, from a statutory university/institution with at least 40% of the aggregate marks (36% for the Scheduled Caste/Tribe candidates).

Candidates who have passed degree programme for two years duration under 10+2+2 or 10+1+3 pattern and thereafter have passed bridge programme of one year duration comprising Part – III of B.A/B.Sc./B.Com. three years (General) programme of the University of Jammu or any other recognized University shall also be eligible subject to the aggregate qualifying marks as indicated above.

A candidate who has passed M.A/M.Sc./M.Com. Examination from the University after having passed B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Examination under the old pattern of 10+2+2 or 10+1+3 shall also be eligible for admission under second preference category to:

# A programme where the minimum eligibility condition is pass in Three Year Degree (General) Programme after 12 years of schooling.

# A Master Degree Programme is an allied subject, if otherwise permissible under Statutes/Regulations of the University.
